Dr. Mason’s practice is staffed by and dedicated to serving Black men. This is one way Dr. Mason leads in the mental health arena. Given the significant needs of Black men regarding mental health, this remains a critically underserved population due to stigma and often the mismatch between counselor and client. Often called a “unicorn” due to this niche, Dr. Mason and his team are sought after nationwide for their expertise. Dr. Mason and his team provide professional development as well as student workshops that are dynamic and immediately actionable. Their areas of specialization include: social-emotional learning, trauma-informed approaches, crisis response, building effective relationships with students, leadership, and character development.
An adjunct professor in the graduate Counseling Psychology program at Bowie State University, Dr. Mason is passionate about educating future clinicians. He has expanded this role to include mentoring groups of students on how to successfully navigate graduate school by harnessing the strength of their peer relationships. As an entrepreneur, he encourages students to consider building their private practices and provides support for those starting or growing their own businesses. Dr. Mason aptly utilizes social media platforms to amplify his message, normalize self-care and help seeking, highlight the usefulness of therapy, and provide a behind the scenes, often humorous, look at life as a therapist.
As educator, clinician, entrepreneur, and researcher, Dr. Mason allows each role, alongside his lived experience, to inform his work. Driven by a love of learning, Dr. Mason seeks to remove the stigma associated with mental health and significantly improve life outcomes for those in the community.
